In honor of the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s birth, DGMC member Tatiana Shustova performs a piano recital with selections of Rachmaninoff’s beautiful piano pieces.
Dr. Tatiana Shustova was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where she studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music School and the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory. She also participated in piano and chamber music master classes at the Music Hochschule in Leipzig, Germany, in collaboration with New York’s Juilliard School. Tatiana is currently an adjunct faculty member at Millikin University School of Music, where she is collaborative pianist and piano class professor, as well as piano, chamber music, theory and musicianship instructor for the Illinois String Academy and Piano Laboratory Program at UIUC.

This year marks 130 years since S. Prokofiev was born and 210 years since F. Liszt was born. For the recital, I would like to include piano transcription of Romeo and Juliet suite pieces by S. Prokofiev and Schubert-Liszt transcriptions. In addition, I will do Sonetto di Petrarca 104 and Balakirev Islamey . Please enjoy my piano recital at St. Charles Public Library, St. Charles, Illinois.

Russian Masterworks from Illinois Arts Trio
Music specifically composed for piano, violin and cello ensembles will come alive in a performance by violinist Aaron Jacobs from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, pianist Tatiana Shustova, and cellist Amy Catron from Millikin University. The Trio will perform renowned mid-20th century works by Russian composers Prokofiev , Stravinsky and Shostakovich.
As an active chamber and solo recitalist, Mr. Jacobs has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe, have received honors and awards too numerous to list, and has been a prizewinner at international competitions. Ms. Shustova, a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, has received numerous awards for her sparkling piano performances in solo and chamber music competitions in the U.S., Italy, and Russia. Ms. Catron is a versatile cellist appearing as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician; her credits include being principal cellist with several Ohio Symphonies, and performing as soloist with a variety of orchestras in Illinois and Florida.
The concert will take place the afternoon of Sunday, March 22nd at 4PM at the Middleburg United Methodist church, 15 W Washington St., Middleburg, VA. A “meet the artists” reception will follow the performance.

Flutist Sami Junnonen will present a recital with pianist Tatiana Shustova on Monday, April 22, 2019, in Dingeldine Music Center at 7:30 pm. The two will perform works by Jolivet, Prokofiev, Debussy, Kuhlau, and Widor. The recital is free and open to the public. In addition, Junnonen will conduct a masterclass at Dingeldine Music Center from 2 to 4 pm, also with free admission.
Since his debut recital in 2012 at the Helsinki Music Centre of Finland, Sami Junnonen has performed as a soloist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, served as principal flutist of the Helsinki Chamber Orchestra, and taught flute and chamber music at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. His recording of the Mozart Flute Quartets won the 2018 Audience Award as Finnish Album of the Year.

After coming to the United States in 2005, Tatiana completed the Artist’s Certificate Program and a Master’s degree in piano performance at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. There she studied with Maxim Mogilevsky and Dr. Robert Satterlee and won first prize in the 40th annual Concerto Competition. In 2008 she was awarded a fellowship to enter the doctoral program in piano performance at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in the studio of Dr. Ian Hobson, and received her DMA in spring 2013.
Tatiana has appeared at several festivals in the United States and in Europe, including the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp; Illinois Summer Youth Music; Bowling Green Music Institute; Toradze Piano Institute (South Bend, Indiana); Ionian Summer Music Academy (Corfu, Greece); Les Orres International Summer Academy (Embrun, France); Suomussalmi Music Festival (Suomussalmi, Finland); Musica Atri (Atri, Italy); and Scuola Italia (Urbania, Italy), and has received numerous awards in solo and chamber music competitions in the US, Italy and Russia. As a collaborative pianist, she has worked at Mussorgsky State College, St. Petersburg, Russia, Bowling Green State University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Bradley University.

Flutist Kyle Dzapo and pianist Tatiana Shustova will present “Quirky Connections: Peoria to St. Petersburg,” a recital of works for flute and piano, on Tuesday evening, September 27th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dingeldine Music Center on the Bradley University campus. The program will include works by Tchaikovsky, Copland, and Joachim Andersen with illustrated commentary to highlight connections between the compositions, locales, and performers. There is no charge for admission.
Renowned for her research and performances of the music of Danish flutist, composer, and conductor Joachim Andersen, Dzapo will present two works of this nineteenth-century virtuoso. Opening the recital with one of his famously difficult solo etudes, she will then perform Concertstück, Op. 3, with Dr. Shustova in a new edition, which Dzapo prepared for Andersen’s original publisher, Zimmermann of Frankfurt. Shustova will perform Tchaikovsky’s colorful Romantic masterpiece Dumka (Scenes from a Russian Village), Op. 59, and the two will conclude the program with Aaron Copland’s last large-scale work, the Duo for Flute and Piano.
Kyle Dzapo is the Caterpillar Professor of Music and Director of the Honors Program at Bradley University. She is also a pre-concert lecturer for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and author of a new book, Notes for Flutists: A Guide to the Repertoire (Oxford University Press, 2016). Tatiana Shustova is an award-winning pianist from Saint Petersburg, Russia, and a graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory. She has appeared at music festivals in the U. S., Italy, Greece, France, and Finland, and was awarded First Prize in the 2012 American Protégé International Romantic Music Competition, which led to her debut recital at Carnegie Hall.

These works were all written during the summer of 1886 during Brahms’ stay at Lake Thun in Switzerland.Free will donation, all proceeds to Global Mission for El Salvador.
